Dear Dr. Lage-Marques,

Congratulations, you have been selected by the IADR Board of Directors to be the Regional Board Member representing the South American region. The selection of Regional Board Members is done by the IADR Board with input from IADR Divisions and Sections and your name was put forward by the Brazilian Division as someone very qualified to represent the entire region.

I am attaching a copy of the duties and responsibilities for the Regional Board Members. Your duties would commence immediately after the IADR meeting in Hawaii. While the Regional Board Member term is three years, the Board also voted to appoint you to a four year term (2004-2008), in order to achieve a staggered rotation amongst the other four Regional Board Members.

I enclose the IADR/AADR Officers schedule for 2004-2008. Although your term of office as Regional Board Member commences immediately after the IADR/AADR/CADR General Session in Hawaii, I have included you in all the events in Honolulu, as I understand you will attend. Please note that the IADR Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 from 12:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. in the Coral Room at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel. There will be a brief IADR Board meeting during the General Session on Friday, March 12, 2004 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in Room 326-B at the Hawaii Convention Center. I invite you to attend both the IADR Council Meeting and Board Meeting as an observer and as Regional Board Member-designee. Your first IADR Board Meeting as the Regional Board Member will be the first week of December 2004, in a southern US location yet to be determined.

We will include you on the list of recipients for the IADR Council manual that will be distributed in February 2004. I will also add you to our "IADR Board Member" contact list and give you access to the Board secure area of the web site so you can begin to familiarize yourself with the current issues facing the Board.

In addition to the above information I am enclosing several documents to give you a sense of your future work in the Association:

  • 2003 Proceedings from the IADR Council Meeting in Göteborg, Sweden;
  • Schedule of Events for Honolulu, Hawaii;
  • List of IADR and AADR Board Members;
  • List of IADR and AADR Committees;
  • Overview of the Duties and Responsibilities of Officers;
  • Regional Board Member Responsibilities;
  • Association Travel Policy;
  • Overview of the organization and staff in Central Office;
  • IADR Strategic Plan.

Congratulations again on your selection by the IADR Board of Directors. Please let me at your earliest convenience if you are willing to accept the position of Regional Board Member for a four year term. Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Christopher H. Fox, DMD, DMSc
Executive Director
